Very occasionally I use a small plein air study for larger works. The original of this painting looks very much the same but is only 6x8". I had gone out to see the fort at Dun Aengus and then climbed down to the square rockpool at Pol na BPeiste secretly hoping to be able to swim in it but it was far too dangerous when I got there. I walked along the cliffs and found this spot where I was pitched halfway down on a slab between the huge towering rocks above me and the sound of crashing waves below me, sandwiched between the forces of nature.
